Balance assessments designed for adults age 65+.

Falls are the leading cause of injury among adults 65+
Falling once doubles the chance of falling again
Many balance changes occur gradually and are not noticeable until a fall occurs. A balance assessment can help identify:
Subtle shifts in postural control that go unnoticed in daily life but increase risk over time.
Whether your legs produce enough force to rise from a chair safely and support you during movement.
Left/right asymmetries in how your body distributes weight during standing and sit-to-stand tasks.
How well you maintain control during progressively difficult balance tasks like tandem and single-leg stances.
Every test is safe, gentle, and appropriate for community-dwelling older adults. No jumping or strenuous activity required.
How much your body sways while standing still, measured through center of pressure.
Feet together, semi-tandem, tandem, and single-leg stances to challenge your balance system progressively.
Whether one side is doing more work than the other during standing and sit-to-stand tasks.
Lower-body strength and power measured through chair-rise tasks, compared to age-referenced clinical thresholds.
Comparing balance with and without vision to assess how much you rely on visual input for stability.
The speed of your postural corrections, a sensitive indicator of balance control quality.
Every assessment includes a personalized report with results in plain language, comparison to research-based thresholds, and take-home exercises.
Five balance stances (feet together, semi-tandem, tandem, single-leg right, single-leg left) and Five Times Sit-to-Stand. A quick, focused look at your balance and lower-body strength. You receive a one-page Balance Snapshot report with your results, left/right symmetry analysis, and exercises.
Everything in the Balance Snapshot plus quiet standing with eyes open and eyes closed (to assess vestibular balance), opposite-foot semi-tandem and tandem stances, and 30-Second Chair Stand for muscular endurance. Full report with charts, detailed symmetry analysis, and progress tracking across visits.
Two Balance Snapshots together (save $25)
Initial Balance Profile + two follow-ups
Every assessment produces a personalized report like the one below. Results are written in plain language with visual charts and take-home exercises.

Open Sample Report (PDF)Portable force plates set up in any room with a flat floor and a chair.
You stand on the plates for a series of gentle balance tasks. No jumping or strenuous activity.
You receive a report with your results, what they mean, and exercises to take home.
Return visits show changes over time, keeping you informed and motivated.
Traditional fall-risk screenings rely on observation and stopwatches. Force plates measure what the eye cannot see.
Yes. All testing is gentle and appropriate for community-dwelling older adults. You stand on the force plates (which sit flush on the floor) and perform simple balance tasks like standing still or rising from a chair. No jumping or strenuous activity is required.
Comfortable clothing and supportive shoes. You will step on and off the force plates, so shoes with a stable sole work best.
No. These assessments are informational and screening-based. They do not replace a medical diagnosis. If results suggest further evaluation is needed, we recommend sharing your report with your physician or physical therapist.
Most clinical balance screenings use observation and a stopwatch. Force plates capture 1,000 data points per second and reveal left/right asymmetries, sway patterns, and postural control quality that cannot be seen with the naked eye. Your report includes comparisons to published research thresholds with full citations.
Yes. The equipment is fully portable. We need a flat floor surface and a standard chair. We serve locations throughout New Hampshire.
The Balance Snapshot is a focused 10-15 minute screen that covers the essentials. The Balance Profile is a more comprehensive 30-minute assessment that adds vestibular testing (eyes closed), additional stance positions, and muscular endurance testing. If you are unsure, the Balance Profile gives the most complete picture.
Yes. If you run a senior living community, recreation program, PT clinic, or wellness group, contact us for volume pricing and scheduling. We can also pair screenings with a short educational presentation on balance and fall prevention.
